SSDT Coaching Staff 2017-2018
Kelly McCarney (Tomczik) - Head Coach
Kelly is a 2001 graduate of St. Cloud Tech High School and was a four year member, choreographer, and captain of the Tigerette Dance Team. As a dancer, she helped lead her team to a 1998 State Tournament 2nd place finish in the Class AAA High Kick Division and a Section Championship in 2001. This will be Kelly's 16th year coaching the Sabres. She started the dance program in Sartell in 2002. As head coach, she has helped lead the team to 13 consecutive State Tournamant Appearances, including State Finals in HK & JF in every year since 2008 & HK STATE RUNNER's UP 2014, 2013, 2012, HK 3rd place 2016, Jazz 3rd Place 2014, 2016 & 2017 and the 2017, 2015 & 2011 HK STATE CHAMPION teams. Kelly was awarded the "Central Lakes Conference Coach of the Year" for 2010-2011. She is a member of the Minnesota Association of Dance Teams and was honored as the "Class AA Head Coach of the Year" for 2010-2011 and 2007-2008. Kelly is also the recipent of the Just for Kix "Veteran Staff Member of the Year" award, which she received in 2006. Kelly has attended and taught at various dance team camps throughout the midwest. She has worked along with the other Sartell Sabre Dance Team coaches to improve and promote dance team as a sport in the State of Minnesota. Dance Team is her passion and she can’t wait to begin another successful season with the Sartell Sabre Dance Team! Kelly is also a RN and works full time at the St. Cloud Hospital. She is married to her wonderful husband Nick and has a daughter Reese and a son Tyler.
Kelsey Keller - (Winter Competition Season Assistant Coach)
Kelsey is thrilled to be coaching the Sabre Dance Team and is celebrating her 12th year of coaching during the 2017-2018 season! Kelsey is a 2001 graduate of Sartell High School. The dance team was started two years after she graduated so she is honored to coach as an alumni of Sartell! She began dancing at the age of three and danced competitively at the St. Cloud School of Dance studio throughout high school. While in high school, she was also a cheerleader for the SHS varsity football team. After high school, she continued to remain involved in dance through being a member of the University of MN-Duluth dance team, teaching at various studios, and working with Sartell Community Education. Kelsey began coaching the SSDT in 2006 and has helped lead the team to many of their successes such as 13 consecutive state appearances, advancing to finals in HK and Jazz since 2008, and medaling for the past 7 years! She is a member of the Minnesota Assocation of Dance Team Coaches where she was awarded “AA Assistant Coach of the Year” for the 2007-2008 and 2011-2012 dance seasons! She also served on the Board of Directors for the MADT from 2012-2014. She is honored to share her passion for dance with her co-coaches and other coaches around the state and work together to improve the sport! Kelsey is also celebrating her 12th year as a teacher in the Sartell-St. Stephen school district. She currently teaches kindergarten at Pine Meadow Elementary. Her family includes Stefan and their 2 year old son, Easton. She is looking forward to another fabulous season with the SSDT!
Molly Carey is a 6 year veteran coach for the SSDT. She is a 2011 graduate of Sartell High School. She was a member of the Sartell Dance Team where she danced jazz and kick for four years. Molly was also a captain and choreographer for the team. As a dancer she helped lead the team to the 2011 High Kick State Championship and to finals in Jazz Funk. She received All Conference in jazz and kick her junior and senior years, and was named All State dancer in jazz both years as well. Molly danced at St. Cloud School of Dance for 15 years where she learned multiple styles of dance. She is extremely excited to coach the Sartell Dance Team this upcoming year to help continue our tradition of excellence. Molly is an elementary school teacher and substitutes for classes throughout the Sartell area.
Winter Competition Season Coach
Cassie is thrilled to begin her 3rd season at assistant coach of the SSDT. Cassie Reimann is a 2013 graduate of Elk River High School. She was a member of the dance team for four years competing in both jazz and kick. Cassie was a varsity jazz choreographer for two years and captain of the Elk River Dance Team. She was awarded dancer of the year award and also received the only All-Conference Award for her team in 2013. She also participated in Minnesota All-State Dance Team in the jazz category. Cassie began dancing at the age of three. She went to multiple studios but spent her last two years dancing with Genesis Dance Company. Cassie is a recent graduate of St. Cloud State University and is attending St. Cloud Technical and Community College in the ultrasound program. She was a member and captain of the St. Cloud State University Dance Team and was a 2016 National Champion in Pom. Cassie is very excited for her third year working with the Sartell Sabre Dance Team!
Hannah is a 2016 graduate of the Sartell Sabre Dance Team, dancing kick and jazz for all of her four years. During her time on the team she was a captain, choreographer, 2015 and 2016 kick and jazz all conference, 2014 jazz all conference honorable mention, a Jazz all-state dancer, and the St. Cloud Times 2016 dancer of the year. Hannah helped the team receive 3 second place state kick titles, 2 third place jazz titles, and the 2015 State Championship title. Hannah will be a Sophomore at the College of Saint Benedict and is in the nursing program. She is so thrilled to be returning to the Sabre Dance team as a fall coach for the 2017-2018 season!
Abby is a 2010 graduate of Sartell High School and was a member of the SSDT her junior and senior year. While on the team, Abby danced both jazz and kick and received all-conference honors in both kick and jazz as well as All-State honors for jazz her senior year. Abby spent 14 years dancing at North Crest Gymnastics and Dance where she explored several different styles of dance and moved on to teach recreation classes at the studio for 3 years. Abby currently works as an Independent Living Specialist at Independent Lifestyles in Sauk Rapids and will also be starting her 4th season at Elk River as an assistant coach for the winter competition dance team. Abby is excited to be part of the Sartell Dance program once again and looks forward to a great fall season!
Brianna is an SSDT Assistant Varsity Coach Alum of 8 years (2003-2006, 2009-2014), and also a Doctor of Physical Therapy, practicing locally at Williams Integracare Clinic in Sartell. Brianna began dancing at local studios at age 3, and danced for St. Cloud Tech in high school. Brianna was lucky enough coach the SSDT during their first state appearance in both kick and jazz, and also during their first state championship in 2011, and received several state medals thereafter. Due to Brianna’s career in physical therapy, she is a promoter of injury prevention in dancers, and incorporates this largely into her training with the team. Brianna is very experienced in dance team training, learning from the best coaches in the state throughout the years. She is thrilled to continue working with the SSDT this summer and fall to help foster continued success this next season!
Brittney trained at the Just For Kix dance studio in Brainerd in a variety of styles including tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical and kick. She was a four year member and senior captain of the nationally recognized Brainerd Warrior Dance Team, the Kixters and was awarded All Conference, All-Tournament, MVP, and received the Heather Star Habeck award. She is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Business and Marketing Management & a
former 2-year member and 2-time national champion of the University of St. Thomas dance team. She has performed on stage with Beyonce at Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. Previously worked at the Just For Kix corporate office as the summer camp coordinator as well as a marketing liaison for youth program directors. She is a 6 year member of the summer dance camp staff and has taught at the Brainerd & Medina Just For Kix studios. Selected to demonstrate proper technique for the Judges Association of Minnesota training seminar. Brittney has attended and spoken at numerous dance conventions throughout the U.S. & is a professional choreographer for high school and college dance teams throughout the United States and has been an adjudicator at Just For Kix's Together We Dance competitions as well as the Iowa State dance tournament. Brittney danced in Outback Bowl 2007 and has helped orchestrate the halftime show at Outback Bowl 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. She is the current director of the St. Cloud Just For Kix dance program and is so excited to be working with the SSDT this season!
Abigail is a 2017 year graduate from Anoka High School. She trained at Dance Revue Studio of Dance for 15 years in jazz, lyrical, tap and hip hop. She was a 4 year participant of the Anoka Fall Performance Team where she danced in the styles of jazz, hip hop, pom and kick. She was a 4 year member of the Anoka Winter Competition varsity kick and jazz teams, and a Senior Captain. In her last year, she lead the team to winning the Section Championship. During her time on the Anoka Dance Team, as a dancer and choreographer she helped Anoka earn 3 jazz and 2 high kick state trips in the AAA division. She was a 2 time all-conference honorable mention winner and an all-conference award winner her senior year in jazz. She will continue to dance at St. Cloud State University as a member of the Husky Dance Team, and will be studying Sports Management. She is so excited to be working with the Sabre Dance Team!
